As a global ethics organisation committed to fostering dialogue, inclusion, and responsible leadership, Globethics pays tribute to Pope Francis – not only as the head of the Catholic Church, but as a moral voice whose impact reached far beyond religious boundaries.

“Pope Francis, for me, was a beacon of hope and compassion in the most turbulent times,” said Dietrich Werner (Germany), Globethics President. “He was a shining example of faith in the power of love and of resilience for justice.”

From Argentina to the world stage, Pope Francis’ journey was deeply rooted in empathy and proximity to the marginalised. Maria Eugenia Barroso (Argentina), Globethics Regional Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, reflected: “His Argentine identity shaped his worldview. He was close to the humble, sensitive to injustice, and open to dialogue.”

Across continents, his message of human dignity resonated powerfully. “The African people saw in Pope Francis a brother who considered himself a human being amongst other humans,” said Obiora Ike (Nigeria), Globethics Board member. “He had the great courage to criticise ‘the globalisation of indifference’ and made ‘inclusion’ a central message of his leadership.”

In a polarised world, Pope Francis stood as a tireless advocate for peace and reconciliation. Dicky Sofjan (Indonesia), Globethics Vice President, highlighted: “The late Pope Francis was a true and ardent peacemaker, constantly opening his heart and arms to the destitute and disenfranchised. His outreach and engagement with the Muslim world have inspired millions and effectively destabilised the widespread industry of hate and prejudice.”

Offering a personal remembrance, Fadi Daou (Geneva), Globethics Executive Director, shared: “He leaves for the world an exceptional ethical and spiritual legacy. Every time I met him, I was inspired by his authentic leadership, rooted in genuine humility, empathy, and sense of responsibility.”

At Globethics, we honour Pope Francis’ life and mourn his death with deep gratitude. We hope that his values and vision will continue to inspire and guide future leadership, in service of humanity and our shared planet. Certainly, his teachings and example will continue to inspire our work for a more ethical, inclusive, and compassionate world.
