The Ethical AI Learning Journey for Civil Society Organisations & Academic Institutions

AI is transforming the landscapes of education and civil society, offering unprecedented opportunities while also raising urgent ethical questions. While many organisations and institutions are eager to explore AI’s potential, few feel equipped with the frameworks or expertise to do so responsibly. Both nonprofit leaders and higher education actors are calling for structured, values-driven guidance to navigate this complex terrain.

 Ethical AI Learning Journey

Globethics' Ethical AI Learning Journey responds to this need. Rooted in UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, this six-month, cohort-based capacity-building programme empowers civil society organisations (CSOs) and academic institutions to adopt AI ethically and effectively. Through expert-led sessions, peer exchange, and strategic tools, participants will gain the confidence and competence to harness AI in alignment with their mission, putting ethics at the core of innovation.

Why the programme matters

According to the State of AI in Nonprofits 2025 report, the majority of nonprofits are still in the exploratory phase of AI adoption, with limited strategies or acceptable use policies in place. There is a growing demand for mission-aligned, ethical frameworks to help turn AI’s promise into measurable, values-based impact.

AI higher ed workshop

In parallel, according to the Governing AI for Humanity Interim Report of the HLAB on AI, while approximately 21,000 institutions and 222 million students have adopted AI for personalisation and analytics, a global review reveals a significant gap in ethical, methodological, and contextual considerations. Persistent challenges, ranging from transparency and privacy to human-centric design, underscore the urgent need for responsible, inclusive AI governance. As AI’s influence expands, so too must our capacity to use it wisely and ethically.

Who should join the programme?

  • Civil society leaders, advocacy leads, and programme managers
  • University administrators, faculty, and research ethics officers
  • Innovation and tech officers in NGOs or higher-ed institutions
  • Anyone leading digital transformation with a values-based lens
