UN Panel Discussion on AI and Global Human Rights Challenges
We are delighted to invite you to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) side event, organised by Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (IEAI) and Globethics, featuring a dedicated UN panel discussion on "Artificial Intelligence and Global Human Rights Challenges."
This high-level panel will bring together leading voices from international organisations, including representatives from the German Foreign Office, ITU, and other key experts from government and civil society to discuss the integration of human rights considerations into AI governance. The session will explore collaborative approaches to ensure AI policies align with fundamental rights and freedoms.
As AI rapidly transforms societies, ensuring its alignment with human rights is more urgent than ever. While progress has been made, critical gaps remain—such as defining prohibited AI practices, addressing the digital divide, integrating humanitarian law, and recognising Indigenous rights.
To tackle these challenges, the International Summit on AI and Human Rights in Munich (July 2024) brought together 50 global stakeholders to draft a Convention on AI, Data, and Human Rights. Building on this, the March 2025 event presents a unique opportunity to engage in critical discussions, network with leading professionals, and contribute to shaping the future of AI and human rights policy.
For further details on the initiative, please visit the IEAI website and read our news article.
To attend the UN side event, participants must register on the UN website. Please note that a UN temporary badge is required for access, and it is advisable to arrive at least an hour early to complete the badge processing.
The side event is listed in the official UN Human Rights Council programme.
